That's not to say that Marius doesn't love his brother and the friends that he has built up around him, but being a werewolf in a world full of humans and being out in that world has him at a bit of a disadvantage. There are some lighter moments. I don't think I could write a book that is strictly dark. Even Marked by Grief, my most emotional book to date, had a few lighter moments. But this isn't Pine Hollow and Marius is nothing like Liam.
That is one of the things I enjoyed writing with this first book. I was able to do a complete reboot on my own personal idea of a werewolf and what it meant to be one in today's world. No pack, no gorgeous car, no thousand dollar suits. Just a man, his friends, his little town, and his animal rescue.
