I took a nap yesterday accidentally which is probably why I couldn't sleep last night so I decided to make the time productive and read for a few hours. And on my kindle I found a book I can't believe I haven't read before now. Complete and utter craziness and a result of having thousands of books on the app because I should have read Promises a long time ago. A long, long time ago because it was just that good.
This book is simply perfection which is why its getting a 5 star review. I don't give them out often and this one absolutely deserved it. These characters felt far more real than most other characters I've read. Their struggles felt real. Their issues made sense. Their personal triumphs were exactly what you were hoping to happen and every even in their lives worked because it made sense for things to happen like that. There was no rabbit out of the hat kind of charade for drama or angst. Everything could have easily gone down in this tiny Colorado mountain town.
This town, oh this town. These men- simply amazing. But this town...sheesh if I didn't already know it doesn't actually exist I'd be moving there. That's how real this place feels. There's landmarks and side characters and if you've never been to Colorado or want to know more about our state you should pick this book up. From Broncos fans to how much fun it is to mountain bike here- you're going to get it in this book.
Seriously, just go get this book already. There aren't enough good things that I can say about this one.
The paperback is here from Dreamspinner Press.
And here is a short story Marie wrote with these guys. Read Promises first.
